RECRUITMENT OF BAF OFFICER CADETS

1 Introduction .
This Air Force Order (AFO) lays down the conditions of eligibility, ineligibility, selection procedure and other terms of recruitment of candidates as Officer Cadets (Offr Cdt) for commissioning in Bangladesh Air Force (BAF).Conditions of Eligibility
2. Nationality:
The nationality of candidates for BAF Offr Cdt must be Bangladeshi by birth.3. Age Limit
The age will be 161/2 to 22 years for candidates of Regular Course and GD(P) Short Course.The age will be 20 to 30 years for Direct Entry (DE) course candidates.
4. Marital Status
Marital status for candidates of Regular Course will be unmarried.Marital status for DE/SPSSC course will be unmarried/married.
5. Physical Standards :

6. Educational Qualifications :

7. Conditions of Ineligibility:
Candidates of following categories are ineligible for enrolment as Offr Cdts:a. Withdrawn or discharged or voluntary retirement from Bangladesh Army (BA) or Bangladesh Navy (BN)
or BAF or any Government Service of Bangladesh.
b. Twice screened out or rejected by Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB) (once screened out and once rejectedcandidates may apply). However, 5 (five) years after last rejection by ISSB, a candidate may apply for Direct Entry course.
c. Convicted by Court of Law for any criminal offence.d. Rejected by Central Medical Board (CMB, BAF) or Appeal Medical Board.
Procedure for Recruitment
8. Colletion of Application Forms :
Candidates willing to join BAF can collect application form {BAF Form 20227 (Revised)} available at BAF Information & Selection Centre (I&SC, BAF), all BAF Bases/Units except for Dhaka Area, and all District Armed Services Board (DASB) offices by submitting non-refundable pay order/bank draft of amount as specified by Air Headquarters from time to time. Candidates can also apply online through www.joinbangladeshairforce.mil.bd. The online applicants will pay the application fee through Air Force approved payment gateways/services.9. Preliminary Medical Examination :
Medical officer, I&SC, BAF / Recruiting Venue is to check height, weight, chest and eye of the candidates as mentioned in paragraph no 5 (Physical Standards). Candidates found below the required standard are to be rejected. The cause of unsuitability is to be mentioned on the application form and to be preserved for accountability as per existing regulation. However, a candidate if found unfit for a specific branch, may exercise option of choosing any other branch for which he/she is found fit.10. Preliminary Selection Test :
Preliminary selection tests of the candidates will be Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) and Optical Mark Reader (OMR) compatible. OMR compatible answer script will be supplied by Directorate of Recruitment. The subjects of tests are as follows:Branch | Subjects |

11. The tests mentioned in paragraph no 10 above are to be conducted by I&SC, BAF for all candidates of regular, DE and SPSSC course. Officer Commanding, I&SC, BAF is to remain present in the examination hall throughout the tests and also to ensure correct checking of the answer scripts by OMR machine. Distribution of marks for different tests are shown in Annex ‘A’ to this AFO. Candidates qualified in all tests will appear viva voce. The viva voce will be conducted at I&SC, BAF or recruiting venue. The assessment form for viva voce is shown in Annex ‘B’.
12. Additional Written Test for Engg, Edn and Legal Branch Candidates. After preliminary selection test, additional written test will be conducted for Engg, Edn and Legal Branch candidates as per following:
# a. Additional written test in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for candidates of Regular Course and DE course of Engg Branch;
# b. Additional written test in required discipline for candidates of DE/SPSSC course of Edn Branch; and
# c. Additional written test in required discipline for candidates of DE course of Legal Branch.
# d. Directorate of Recruitment will form a committee comprising of members from concerned specialist Directorates. The committee will prepare MCQ type
and OMR compatible question papers for the additional tests for Engg, Edn and Legal Branch Candidates.
13. Inter Services Selection Board : Candidates qualified in the preliminary selection tests (except SPSSC) will appear before the Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB). Pre-cadets from different Cadet Colleges in Bangladesh or from similar institutions in Bangladesh would qualify directly for ISSB. Names of suitable candidates will be recommended by ISSB to the Air Headquarters (Directorate of Recruitment) for final selection.
14. Test of Comprehension Skill : Prior to interview by the Cadet Final Selection Board (CFSB), ISSB qualified candidates for Offr Cdts will sit for a test of comprehension skill at I&SC, BAF. The test will be conducted in the form of writing one paragraph in Bangla and one paragraph in English. Total marks for the test will be 20 (10+10). I&SC, BAF will prepare the result of the test and forward to Directorate of Recruitment prior to CFSB. The result will be shown in the profile of each candidate for consideration of CFSB.
15. Pilot Aptitude Test (PAT) : ISSB qualified candidates for GD(P) Branch will undergo PAT at I&SC, BAF. PAT will be conducted to assess psychomotor skill of the candidates. I&SC, BAF will conduct the test and forward the result to Directorate of Recruitment. The test would be used as a tool for CFSB to select the more deserving candidates for GD(P) Branch. If CFSB decides not to select a particular candidate based on the result of PAT, the board may select the candidate for any other suitable branch.
16. Special Selection Board (SSB) for SPSSC Candidates : The preliminary selected candidates of SPSSC will appear before the SSB formed at I&SC, BAF instead of ISSB (as per AFI No 65/1952 dated 11 April 1952 or as amended from time to time). The SSB will comprise of:
# Director of Recruitment.
# OC I&SC.
# One BAF officer qualified in Deputy President (DP) course of ISSB.
# One Psychologist.
# Any other officer detailed by Air Headquarters (if needed).
17. The SSB will conduct following tests:
# Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT).
# Viva voce.
18. After conducting necessary tests, the SSB will recommend the names of qualified candidates to the Air Headquarters (Directorate of Recruitment) for final selection.
19. Final Medical Examination :
Candidates recommended by the ISSB/SSB will undergo final medical examination at Central Medical Board (CMB), BAF for assessment of their medical fitness for their concerned branch. If any candidate is found unfit for the applied branch, CMB, BAF is to reassess and mention medical fitness/unfitness of that candidate for other branch as applicable.20. Security Clearance :
Candidates found medically fit by the CMB, BAF are to be interviewed by the Directorate of Air Intelligence for provisional security clearance and forward the report to Directorate of Recruitment before the Cadet Final Selection Board (CFSB).21. Cadet Final Selection Board (CFSB) :
Candidates found fit in all aspects are to be interviewed by the CFSB at Air Headquarters for final selection. The CFSB will be conducted as per AFO 56-1. Result of tests mentioned in paragraph no 10; viva voce, CFSB and other relevant/applicable tests (as mentioned in paragraph no 12a and 17 above) will be converted to percentile. In the final merit list, total score of test (s) appeared by the candidates will be converted to percentile and considered for determining position of the candidates. Offr Cdt BD number will be issued as per the final merit list in groups of GD (P), Engg and rest of the branch. Format for final merit list is shown as Annex ‘C’22. Allocation of Branch :
Candidates of GD(P), GD(N) and Engineering branch of Regular Course will be allotted with their branch during CFSB. Branch of candidates for Log, ATC, ADWC and Met Branch will be selected after one year training at BAF Academy. The selection committee will include representatives of Air Secretary’s Branch, Directorate of Recruitment, BAF Academy and suitable officers of the concerned branch available at BAF Base Bir Srestho Matiur Rahman or BAF Academy. DE and SPSSC candidates will be allotted with branch during CFSB. An undertaking certificate will be obtained from all the candidates on non-judicial stamp of appropriate value and notarized stating no objection of the candidate on accepting any branch of Bangladesh Air Force. The sample of undertaking certificate is shown in Annex ‘D’ to this AFO.23. Joining Instruction :
Directorate of Recruitment will prepare the list of finally selected candidates after CFSB and obtain approval of Chief of Air Staff (COAS). Then joining instruction will be issued to the finally selected candidates by I&SC, BAF and enrolment formalities are to be completed. Team from BAF Academy will visit I&SC, BAF to conduct kitting measurements for candidates. As per joining instruction, candidates will be dispatched to BAF Academy or Bangladesh Military Academy, as applicable for training.24. Documentation :
I&SC, BAF is to ensure documentation of relevant papers as per Annex ‘E’ to this AFO during issuing joining instruction. An undertaking certificate for recovery of compensation in the event of voluntary abandoning of training will be obtained from all candidates on non-judicial stamp of appropriate value and notarized. The sample of undertaking certificate for recovery of compensation in the event of voluntary abandoning of training is shown in Annex ‘F’.25. Issuance of No Objection Certificate (NOC) :
Candidates who cannot be accommodated in any branch due to shortage of vacancy or other limitations may be issued with NOC upon receiving application from individual candidate. A sample of NOC is shown in Annex ‘G’ to this AFO.26. Percentage of Female Offr Cdts :
No of Female Offr Cdts in any course is to be kept between 10% and 25% where upon commission no of female officer in any particular branch shall not exceed 25%.27. Course Nomenclature :
The nomenclature of the Regular Course and Direct Entry Course (including SPSSC) will be as follows: a. For Regular Course :‘BAFA Course’ prefixed by the course number (e.g. 79 BAFA Course). b. For Direct Entry Course (including SPSSC) :Direct Entry course will be named corresponding to the year they are enrolled (e.g. DE 2018). If more than one course in a year, then suffixed by ‘A’ for January batch and ‘B’ for July batch (e.g. DE 2017A and DE 2017B).28. Suspension from Flying :
If any Offr Cdt of GD (P) Branch fails to qualify in flying but found suitable in all other aspects will be absorbed in other branches subject to establishment vacancy. The continuation of BSc (Aero)/BBS/BA degree course for them will be as per the requirement of the concerned new branch.29. Grant of Commission :
On successful completion of prescribed training, the Offr Cdts will be granted commission in the rank of Flying Officer or as applicable on probation for the prescribed period.30. All other terms of service in regard to pay, allowance, ante-dated seniority, ante-dated commission, grant of Permanent commission (PC) or Extended Service Commission (ESC), leave, promotion, gratuity etc will be as per the existing regulations of BAF.
