Flying Training Wing



The Flying Training Wing (FTW) of BAF Academy conducts basic flying training for Officer Cadets. Under this wing there are two squadrons conduct the Basic Flying Training- 11 Squadron BAF and 12 Squadron BAF. GD(P) officer cadets of 5th and 6th semester undergo 100 hours Basic Flying Training course in 11 Squadron BAF for one year. Presently Basic Flying Training is conducted by Chinese origin PT-6 aircrafts. However, recently German origin GROB G-120 TP aircrafts inducted in BAF and started operating under 12 Squadron BAF. In near future cadets flying training would be conducted by this aircraft.

No 11 Squadron BAF

'উদয়ের পথে নির্ভীক' with this motto 11 Squadron BAF is vested with the sacred responsibility of imparting basic flying training to the future pilots of BAF. Till now, this is the birth place of all the pilots of Bangladesh Air Force. The officer cadets step into this squadron in their 5th semester. At first a thorough knowledge on PT-6 aircraft and its various systems is imparted to them. After successful completion of the ground course, the officer cadets prepare themselves for flying training under supervision of Qualified Flying Instructors. Adequate classes are taken by the instructors on aircraft manual, operating procedures, relevant orders and publications etc. The basic flying training syllabus of 100 hours is divided into various phases like: General Flying, Instrument, Navigation, Formation, Night and Advance Aerobatics. Due emphasis is given so that, Officer Cadets get adequate confidence in handling the aircraft. Besides flying, officer cadets also undergo training in PT-6 aircraft simulator.

No 12 Squadron

'নীলিমায় দূর্বার' with this motto 12 Squadron BAF has emerged with the newly inducted GROB G120TP aircrafts in its inventory. These German origin basic flying trainers are built with advanced technology and ability which will certainly provide better quality flying training. The aircraft was inducted in BAF on 16 March 2022. With the inclusion of side by side glass cockpit, PFD and MFD, modern automation system and ISR platform, this was a step up for the basic flying cadets looking into the future of aviation. For the first time in BAF, the cadets will be introduced with Computer Based Training and state of the art simulator platforms which will enhance their flying ability and knowledge before starting the basic conversion course. In the conversion, they will fly various phases like: General Flying, Instrument, Navigation, Formation, Night and Advance Aerobatics to emerge as the future flagbearers of Bangladesh Air force. From 2023, officer cadets would start flying this modern aircraft as their basic flying training aircraft.
